Thank you for choosing Herald, my first effort exploiting the myriad possibilities of Greg Landweber's Kaleidoscope 2 control panel. To run it, you must have a copy of this version of Kaleidoscope; it can be downloaded from Greg's website at http://www.kaleidoscope.net or many mirror sites on the web. Please register your copy of Kaleidoscope, if you have not already done so. Not only is it the right thing to do, by paying the nominal fee, you do your part to insure the continued development and support of the control panel we all love so well!
Please note that, due to the diffulculties and time involved in produsing color schemes for the Kaleidoscope 2 format, Herald is shareware. See the bottom of this document for payment arrangements. The Herald package includes the color scheme and a pattern which can be used for both a desktop and Window Monkey pattern. (You probably already know about Window Monkey, a control panel which allows the user to put a variety of background patterns in Finder windows, but if you don't, it can be found on the internet wherever Mac goodies are sold. Ask for it by name.)
To install the desktop pattern: OS 7.x users, open your Desktop Patterns control panel and drop the pattern on the open Desktop Patterns window and select the one you want; OS8 users, open the Desktop Pictures control panel, choose "Patterns", and drag the new pattern onto the Patterns window and release it (if you've been using a "Desktop Picture", you must first press "Remove Picture", then press "Patterns"). Now choose your new desktop pattern and close the panel. To install a Window Monkey pattern, open the control panel and drop the new pattern on the pattern display window. You can specify the text color by clicking on the symbol to the left of the scrollbar and using the color picker that appears.
As mentioned above, Herald is shareware, but with a twist. As you will discover, the Herald file folders are inscribed with an "H", for, you guessed it, "Herald" -- but also, to my glee, "Hunter". If you like the scheme, and believe that it's worth a few bucks of your hard-earned cash in support of my future efforts making these difficult new interfaces, I will return the favor by personalizing a new copy of Herald with your monogram -- or any symbol of your choice (no swastikas or similar hate-images please, but I'm not above the odd pentagram or voodoo hex...)
